2010/2011 Annual Report Highlights Successful Year in Breast Cancer Clinical Trials Research

The 2010/2011 Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group’s (ANZBCTG) Annual Report is now available and provides a snapshot of the Group’s successful clinical trials research program for the treatment, prevention and cure of breast cancer.

This year’s report introduces the Group’s new logo, which represents the values, identity and personality of the ANZBCTG today – a collaboration of researchers working with consumers and women who participate in our clinical trials, together with donors, sponsors and funders who support our vital research activities.

Together, we are committed to the highest quality clinical trials research, which has made a significant contribution to the decline in breast cancer mortality rates. The ANZBCTG’s achievements include:

• The expansion of our clinical trials portfolio to more than 60 clinical trials (in various stages of recruitment, follow-up, analysis and publication) for the prevention of breast cancer and the treatment of early and advanced breast cancer;

• 39 new journal publications of research results, with the total number of published papers exceeding 800 since the Group’s inception more than 30 years ago;

• Research collaborations with 600 researchers and members representing 78 institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand, and with researchers from leading cancer clinical trials groups both nationally and internationally;

• Involvement of more than 13,100 women from Australia and New Zealand in ANZBCTG research programs;

• Peer-reviewed grant support, including from the National Health and Medical Research Council and Cancer Australia;

• Commencement of the Group’s Communications Plan;

• Growth in staff capacity to more than 60 personnel; and

• Successful fundraising by the Group’s fundraising department, Breast Cancer Institute of Australia, thanks to the ongoing generosity of individual donors and corporate supporters, and other successful activities and special events.

The ANZBCTG has a dedicated team of staff, members and supporters who are committed to our mission to eradicate all suffering from breast cancer. Our achievements are testimony to their significant contributions to this goal.
