RESEARCHERS CONVERGE AT GOLD COAST CONFERENCE

19/07/2011

Leading International & Australian Breast Cancer Researchers Converge at Gold Coast Annual Scientific Meeting.

The latest developments in breast cancer research, future directions for clinical trials and improving patient care, are just some of the topics that will be discussed by leading international and Australian breast cancer researchers at a conference on the Gold Coast this week.

This is the 33rd year of the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group’s (ANZ BCTG) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), which will be held from 20-23rd July at the Royal Pines Resort.

The conference attracts distinguished researchers in the field of breast cancer and medical research, with international and national guest speakers.

This year’s program will discuss exciting advances in targeted therapies; emerging molecular research discoveries and their role in treatment sensitivity and resistance; risk of recurrence and risk of new breast cancers; opportunities for new directions in the treatment of endocrine resistant disease; and new data and updated data from the ANZ BCTG’s clinical trial research portfolio.

The ANZ BCTG’s Director of Research, Professor John Forbes, said the conference plays an important role in informing and updating clinicians about the latest news and developments in breast cancer clinical trials and improving patient outcomes.

“Australia plays a key role in the development and conduct of global and collaborative breast cancer clinical trials, which have contributed to significant advances in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer and a fall in breast cancer deaths over the last 20 years. This year’s conference will include guest speakers from the United Kingdom and the United States and we welcome more than 200 key breast cancer clinicians from across Australia and New Zealand,” Professor Forbes said.

The ANZ BCTG is the largest independent, oncology clinical trials, research Group in Australia and New Zealand. The Group conducts a national and international clinical trials research program, for the treatment of all stages of breast cancer and the prevention of breast cancer. The research program involves multicentre clinical trials and collaboration with 80 institutions and 500 researchers throughout Australia and New Zealand.
