2026 Clinical Fellowships
Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) will support up to four part time Clinical Fellowships, annually, to promote the work of the group.
The fellowships can be in any of the disciplines listed below, with a maximum of two fellows per discipline in any given year. BCT is committed to supporting regional academic research. At least one Clinical Fellowship from a regionally* based applicant will be awarded.
The aim is to encourage applications from a variety of disciplines. The intent is to allow early career researchers to spend dedicated time on research projects relevant to existing or future BCT clinical trials that support aspects of the BCT strategic plan. This may relate to analysis and extension of existing trials, or background/pilot work relating to future trials.
These Fellowships are designed to support the professional development of outstanding individuals who have the potential and ambition to have breast cancer clinical research as a major part of their career.
Fellowships are awarded for 1 year, but a follow-up application may be considered for a second year.
Salary support for up to $70,000 for 2 days per week, for 12 months per Fellowship will be made available from early 2026. It is expected that this time will be supplemented by clinical time or other research time funded by the host institution. Providing salary support for an appropriate position in an international institution is possible. The BCT Fellowship Program is generously supported by Professor Ehtesham Abdi and the Darling Downs Cancer Research Fund.
Fellowships are available in the following disciplines:
- Medical oncology
- Pathology
- Psychology and other supportive care specialities
- Radiation oncology
- Radiology
- Surgery
Applications for Fellowships must be made by the Supervisor of the Fellowship, who must be a BCT member. The applicant must agree that the work funded by the BCT Fellowship is directly relevant to BCT work. Fellows are expected to attend the BCT ASM, and registration for the ASM will be part of the award.
The application must include a description of the proposed project in sufficient details to allow the selection committee to assess its scientific merit, feasibility and relevance to BCT activities, as well as include extensive details around the applicant’s past record of breast cancer research and future ambitions to demonstrate their potential to contribute to the strategic aims of BCT.
Closing date for 2026 Fellowships is 27 August 2025.
BCT will announce successful Fellows on 26 September 2025.
* Regionally Based: means non-capital cities, excluding Darwin and Hobart.
