NEW TREATMENT TO REPLACE ZOLADEX ON THE PBS

From 1st October 2026, Triptorelin 3.75mg will be available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), providing a new treatment option for those with breast cancer.
The announcement by the Australian Government provides certainty for thousands of patients who have been impacted by AstraZeneca Pty Ltd’s decision to delist the Zoladex 3.6mg implant from the PBS from 1st November.
Zoladex, also known as goserelin, is a monthly injection that supresses ovarian function and is commonly used to treat hormone receptor positive breast cancer and to prevent early menopause in women undergoing chemotherapy. Around 13,580 Australians accessed this implant or a similar treatment on the PBS in 2025.
The listing of Triptorelin on the PBS will mean that the cost per script is $25, rather than $1,370.
Breast Cancer Trials is particularly proud of this announcement, as Triptorelin was proven beneficial in the SOFT and TEXT clinical trials studying ovarian suppression – landmark research that produced practice changing results in the treatment of breast cancer in young women.
